We just returned from Allenwood FCI visiting John. Although more and more folks know this routine perhaps it bears a bit of chat about this new social ritual. My guess is that 5% to 10% of the population does this regularly, but in my social circle it is not discussed. Thus, I will discuss it.
All these visits require stamina and planning beyond ones ordinary social functions. Rising in the morning is just the beginning of a day of regimentation that is really not expected in a free republic. We have the routine down, but still must plan meticulously. Any disruption in the prison will jettison all visits and a thousand mile trip will be in vain. Surprisingly fog will delay a visit and take away the few hours that are available during a week-end.
This week-end visit was oily smooth because of perfect planning and a some what relaxed Federal Prison Staff. We did not have the pain of seeing a young mother with children, or older confused and frightened grandparents turned away because of some minor neglect of detail.
